Strasbourg's winter decorations start coming out sometime in October and last past the new year. Strasbourg isn't that cold in winter. Its winters are probably comparable to those in New York City or San Francisco. It gets cold. You will need a warm winter coat, gloves and a scarf but the winters do not tend to be bitterly cold nor does the snow stick when it falls which is far from frequent. Strasbourg has a famous Christmas Market, Marche de Noel, which sprawls itself throughout the city in about seven diverse and intriguing locations for everyone's enjoyment and pleasure. If you aren't much of a winter person you might be more inclined to visit France's Marche de Noels in warmer climates, such as in Nice, Antibes, Cannes or Monaco to name a few. France has an abundance of Christmas Markets for all to enjoy so don't let the cold weather of one region of France deter you from experiencing fabulous Marche de Noels in another region. Baccarat lines one of the narrow medieval pedestrian streets a block from the Strasbourg Cathedral with about 20 chandeliers - an absolutely elegant and lovely site to behold. Strasbourg winters are friendly and embrace the season in full swing as do the tourists as the city becomes quite the tourist attraction during the winter months. The Strasbourg Cathedral is particularly ominous during the winter months. A layer of fog will often give the Cathedral of Notre Dame an eerie vibe making it feel a bit like Dracula's winter vacation digs.
