How to Seal Kanekalon Dreadlocks

kanekalon dreadlocks

After you've made your dreadlocks you will need to seal the dreads. Sealing dreadlocks helps to ensure that the dreads will not unravel or come apart and ensures the dreadlock a long life - which is important particularly if you plan on keeping them in your hair for months on end.

Sophie usually keeps her dreads in for a couple months at a time. She has never had even a hint of trouble with the dreads coming apart.

There are different ways of sealing dreadlocks.
  • Our favorite and the only option we recommend is boiling water as it seems to seal dreadlocks better than any of the other options below.
  • You can take a hairdryer to the dreadlock - our opinion is that this does not work very well.
  • You could use a lighter - I don't recommend this as kanekalon is plastic and will melt.
