March 15, 2008 This evening I went to a local film festival here in Strasbourg presented by La Cigogne enragee. The film festival was called Les Courts qui Deplument. It was an amateur festival of short films. Put on by a group of students who created this club so that they could help each other with their film project. Matthieu, the Vice President, was a little disappointed because there were very few questions during the Q&A and they had hoped for feedback on their work. That being said, it should be noted that it was a full house with standing room only in the back in and aisles as well as several people sitting on the floor above the screen. Had Matthieu's goal been to fill the house, he would have been quite please. Sophie has been editing her lastest film and sometimes it can be a bit discouraging or frustrating without a little help from time-to-time. Basically, neither Sophie nor I know anything about music. We've really never put her work to music yet and it simply seems like an almost impossible hurdle to jump. There were nine films in the festival. Pretty much across the board each of the films had good music. The sound was sometimes questionable, but the music was rather solid. Yes, a lot of it was stolen without rights, but quite honestly, these films will probably never see another film festival and this one was in a small cafe in a rather small city in France so I doubt legal issues regarding music will ever really be much of an issue. A couple of the films were pretty edgy and had some interesting potential. There was some very nice editing going on and some interesting experimental work. A couple of the actors were fairly solid while some a little distracting. In the end, I was quite pleased that finally we may have found other filmmakers for Sophie to work with. Sophie did not come with me to the event as she had a play to attend with her theater class. She got home about 10 minutes before me and was just settling in to editing when I barged in and told her to get ready so that she could meet these people. I'm glad she did. The club will be getting together on Monday and hopefully they will be running late, as they were this evening, so that Sophie can make it there after her theatre class. Matthieu said he'd come over sometime this week to help Sophie with the music for her film. She wants to send it out to a film festival which has a deadline of March 24th so time is of the essence. Matthieu's friend laughed when Matthieu said he would help. I'm not sure if Matthieu isn't the most reliable or if he's just terribly busy. Either way, hopefully he'll be able to help Sophie get over this musical blockade. He also uses Mac and Final Cut which will make for an easier transition. Although, he uses Final Cut Studio while Sophie has Final Cut Express. Sophie says that Express doesn't have all the stuff Studio has for sound. We'll see what they can put together. I told Sophie I would look for free festival music on-line this evening. I really don't know anything about it, but I'll see what I can find out. Sophie has a couple of her films online. Feel free to check them out! If you have enjoyed this article, please consider leaving a donation. I love giving to you. I also love receiving. All the best!
