How Long Do Dreadlocks Stay in? If dreadlocks are put in well they can stay in until you are ready to take them out. Sophie usually doesn't keep her dreads in for more than a couple months. She says her hair grows faster than most people's hair. How fast your hair grows would play into how long you could keep the dreadlock extensions in. On average your dreadlock extensions should be able to remain in your hair for between 2-6 months, as long as they are well-made dreadlocks and won't fall apart, and as long as the dreads were put in securely and the dreads won't fall out. The reason why dreadlocks need to be taken out of the hair is because, at some point, your hair is going to get rather long and the dreadlock will no longer be close to the scalp, but rather it will be dangling a half inch or maybe a couple of inches from the scalp. The dangling dread look will eventually look a little odd as it will simply be too distant from the head. The dangling dread will also begin to feel rather uncomfortable and kind of tug at the scalp. When this happens you will know it is time to remove the dreads. |
