Early Morning Walks in Strasbourg
It's tranquil. The sky starts off dark with barely a hint that the deep blue sky will soon begin to fade away into the day. No hustle. No bustle. Just a peaceful walk around one of the most beautiful cities one could imagine. Just us and the Strasbourg Cathedral. Strasbourg is the capital of the Alsace region and the 9th largest city in France. The Grande Ile (Grand Island) is Strasbourg's historical center and in 1988 was classified a World Heritage site by UNESCO. It was the first time an entire city center was honored in such a manner. Strasbourg is a beautiful fusion between French and German culture. Imagine strolling around this lovely city at dawn, just you and the Strasbourg Cathedral, the fourth tallest church in the world, an ornate example of 15th-century gothic architecture. The city is very safe, as is France in general. On our first trip to Paris, I couldn't get on a French time schedule and so we'd get up at 5:00 am or so and wander around the quaint older areas near the Basilique du Sacre-Coeur (Basilica of the Sacred Heart). Paris was equally safe. I highly recommend early morning walks in either city. On this page are a few Strasbourg photos that I've taken during a couple our more recent early morning walks. Enjoy!
