Sophie first asked for blue hair when she was 9-years-old. I felt she was too young at that time to color her hair and told her to revisit the conversation when she was 14-years-old... not just for blue hair but for any permanent hair color.

The child was consistent about wanting blue hair, but then she started acting and didn't want to have the hair color interfere with getting work. So, again... she waited.

Before her 14th birthday, she asked if she could dye her hair blue. I said, "Yes". She wasn't acting anymore and didn't plan to return to it until she was an adult and, truly, I had no other reservations. By the way, blue hair dye is not toxic. Peroxides found in most 'normal' colors are toxic. All the cool, funky colors are perfectly safe.

Really cool blue highlights can come through when you dye the roots blue when your hair is growing out. In the picture below you can see how the black hair is growing out and the long blue roots add a cool color and dimension... and create a personal style.

At one point Sophie was back to short hair, but she wanted it long before we moved from Antibes to Strasbourg so she made a whole bunch of long blue dreads with a few highlight colors. As seen below...
