In 1945, World War II ended and Berlin was divided into 4 sectors - American, British, French and Russian. Beginning in 1957 leaving East Berlin without permission was forbidden with violators being prosecuted and serving up to three years in prison. In 1961 the Berlin sectorial boarder was closed between East and West Berlin and barriers were built. In 1989, the Berlin Wall came down! On October 3, 1990 (one year and one day after Sophie was born) Germany was reunited. For more information on the history of the Berlin Wall click here. I love giving to you. I also love receiving.
