Booze, Babes and a Bathroom in Berlin
March 7, 2008
While Sophie and I were in Berlin she was upset and didn't want to talk to me because I refused to go to some club with 5 floors of punk rock, alternative, hip hop, techno DJs and a band.
For a teenager, this is the end of the world and clearly if the parent knew how important it was the parent would run to the club and not leave until every last drunk punk had left the establishment.
Well, Sophie's crisis mode on the necessities of being a teenager didn't budge me and I remained firm in my refusal to enter a place where not only one teenager, Miss Sophie, looked at me like I had 18 heads but rather 5 floors of completely obnoxious teens who knew I was either a narc or their 5th grade science teacher.
The photos on this page are of me, my beer, Sophie and a random bathroom on one of the floors at the Pegasus Hostel where Sophie had locked herself in one of the stalls and was determined to live out the rest of her days there.
Being the understanding mother that I am, I decided to join her in the bathroom of solitude, teen angst and mommy rebellion.
I'm one of those mothers who could never foresee her child acting in such a manner. I'm also one of those mothers who won't give in to it. I was willing to go to the gay bar - until we walked in and it was all gay men. But subjecting myself to hours on end of tormented teens and too cool twenty-something-year-olds is just too much for me.
Nonetheless, I loved our bathroom experience.
It finally came time to leave the bathroom at which point I realized how high up I was. I'm terribly afraid of heights and couldn't get down. This presented a problem since I had locked my stall door and Sophie couldn't get in to help. Sweet little Sophie climbed all the way over the stall wall coming to her mommy's rescue and helping me down to safety.
My hero!
