Whether you are into big, loud trendy bars or small bars with a cool off-beat feel and groovy music you can find it in Barcelona. I'm not usually into big bars or noisy scenes but in Barcelona even the loud, wild bars are comfortable and the people are easy going and friendly. I went to a handful of bars that were very enjoyable and I would love to visit again. Not one bar was I put off at and would not return to. Barcelona is like Vegas in that you can openly drink on city streets. (I've actually heard that it is not legal to have open containers in Vegas but that the law is not enforced.) In Barcelona open containers are no problem. Once the streets get dark men stand out at street corners trying to sell you a beer. These men carry a 6-pack of beer-in-a-can and try to sell it to everyone walking by. I'm not sure why this works but it must work well as they are rampant on every street corner. All the bars are open so booze is not hard to come by. All I can think is that in Barcelona the liquor stores are closed and people who are hanging out on the streets are either in need of a beer or people on their way home are in need of a little alcohol. In any case, if you want to buy a beer at night in Barcelona, Spain the local corner beer dealer is there and you'll have no trouble finding him.
